Graph 6: Unemployment rate conditional on age and gender Source: Labour force survey 2010 for the Czech Republic Further, graph 7 shows that the elderly respond to shifts in the statutory retirement age by postponing their exit from the labour market. It shows that there is no substantial difference in the proportion of individuals leaving labour market around retirement age between 1998 and 2010, despite the fact that the retirement age rose by 2 years for males and 3 years for females during that period. It suggests, again, that neither obstacles on the labour market nor health problems are the main drivers for retirement, since individuals are able to adjust the timing of their exit from the labour market according to changes in the statutory retirement age. 14
