 • All the parties’ manifestos, with the exception of KDU-ČSL and the Pirates, respond to shortages in service provision for families with children and propose to increase the availability of pre-school childcare and other family services. With the exception of SZ (the Green Party), however, the parties do not mention who will finance the planned expansion in the capacity of pre-school facilities, nor to what extent pre-school care should be guaranteed and for what ages of children.
• Fivepartiestalkoftheneedtoincreasetheavailabilityofflexibleformsofemploymentintheir manifestos (KDU-ČSL, KSČM, Realisté, SZ, TOP 09). Where they offer a specific proposal for how to achieve this (KDU-ČSL, Realisté, SZ), they all propose some form of preferential tax treatment for flexible and part-time contracts.
• Fathers’ involvement in childcare is, in comparison with other countries, currently very low in the Czech Republic; nevertheless, none of the parties except SZ (the Green Party) considers this issue sufficiently important to pay it any attention in their manifesto. And yet involving fathers in childcare and extending childcare service provision are both key prerequisites for an increase in the birth rate, which the country very much needs.
